Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a specific question about home basketball courts? If you can’t find the answer below, we’re here to help. Contact us via email at info@sportcourt.uk or telephone on 01962 809206

How much does it cost to build a basketball court?

Small key basketball courts, featuring PowerGame+ court surface in combination with a Mega Slam 60 hoop system, start at £6,500 for a 6.4m x 9.4m (20ft x 30ft). The 3D Court Builder lists an array of sizes and prices for various basketball courts, from small key shooting zones to 3x3 half courts.

You will also need a flat hard-stand on which to install your court surface. You can find out more information here on what types of hard-stands can be used in conjunction with a Sport Court surface.

If you do not already have a court Sub-Base or suitable hard-stand, then you will need to install one. Fully managed reinforced concrete slab installations start at £7,500.00 for the a 6.4m x 9.4m court.

Sport Court UK recommend concrete slabs as the preferred court base material. The cost of installing a concrete slab can vary depending on the access route through your property (if your access in and out of your property is limited then our Approved Sub-Base Installer may require more time to excavate and import materials to the court area). In some cases, you will have to pay a Supplementary Installation Fee that is determined by our Approved Sub-Base Installer prior to your commencement date.

The court and will cost little in maintenance and last far longer than traditional outdoor surfaces. Mega Slam Hoops will last a lifetime.

What is a good size for a home Basketball Court?

FIBA regulation courts are 28 x 15m. You certainly don’t need all that space to enjoy basketball in your back garden. Our court schemes are designed to be compact and highly functional. 6.4m x 9.4m allows for a full FIBA key area and a good section of 3 point arc to practice your range shooting. Space permitting, you can incorporate a full 'half court' within a 15.6 x 9.4m area.

Check for encroaching trees within the plan area of your court perimeter to ensure you can shoot freely from all angles. It’s generally advisable to place the hoop system away from potential obstructions.

Direct sunlight can be a challenge when shooting hoops outdoors, so consider the position of the sun when choosing your court location.

Sport Court UK can fit custom courts to any  dimensions in any available space. Email info@sportcourt.uk to enquire about custom sized basketball court installation.

How far is the 3 point line?

The distance from the basket to the three-point line varies by competition:

Sport Court UK basketball courts feature a FIBA regulation-compliant line marking scheme as standard. The 3 point line extends 6.75m from the centre of the hoop. This length is shortened at the sides of the court to 6.6m to allow for the minimum 900mm paths to the baseline.

FIBA 3x3 competition employs the same 6.75m 3 point line.

In the National Basketball Association (NBA) the arc is 7.24m  (23' 9") from the center of the basket.

The WNBA 3 pointers are scored from 6.75m.

How far is a Free Throw line?

The free-throw line, from where a player shoots a foul shot, is located within the three-point arc at 4.6m (15') from the plane of the backboard.

A successful foul shot is worth 1 point, but similar shots in regular play are still worth 2 points.
